Business trip #2 August 2, 2008

So we decided to try out meeting John on his second night away and I’m so glad we did. My good friend’s husband works with John so they were there too. It was nice to have friends to hang with up there. I think Jack has a little crush on their little girl Kieli.

I think he was a little confused when we got to the hotel but once he saw her he was done with our family for the rest of our stay. We had to drag him kicking and screaming back to our room at the end of the day. We got there on Thursday afternoon and went swimming and then out to dinner. I was really nervous about the sleeping arrangements because Jack and Lottie both have been trained a little too well to sleep by themselves. It turned out ok. Lottie fell right to sleep as soon as we got to back to our room and was out for the rest of the night. Jack though was a little harder. We tried for about an hour to do it the nice way. We read to him, sang to him, stroked his back, pretended to be asleep. Nothing was working, so I physically restrained him while he screamed and tried to get loose. After about 10 minutes he was out too.

The next morning after our husbands left Nikki and I were asking the people at the front desk if there was a fun park or something around. They said “oh yes, the white river park..it’s beautiful!” So they gave us directions and we drove around for about 20 minutes trying to find it and finally we found the street and turned into White River “trailer” Park. It would have been so funny if both our kids weren’t so restless and hot in the backseat. We finally came across a little neighborhood park which was just fine for the kids to wear themselves out in.

I have to admit that I’ve known about this little business trip for about 3 months and I been dreaded it for about that long. It turned out to be nothing at all to worry about and even really fun. This is just another example of what John calls me making my life so much harder than it needs to be. I’m really going to try not to worry about these things from now on.

Today we decided to pretend we were still on vacation and we went to the “Kokomo Beach” We planned on being there all day but after a couple laps in the lazy river, a few times down the water slide and some time at this little waterfall Jack and Lottie were both hungry and tired. So we went to the park and had a picnic.

Wow, in that last picture of you, I can really see Ryan (but much prettier). I always dread any business trip that Ryan takes, but always adjust after he leaves and end up enjoying my time alone.

See! I was telling Alie how much I look like Ryan and she didn’t believe me. It’s weird huh…

I’m glad it turned out so well. It’s always nice to have another someone with kids along. That’s so cute about jack holding the little girl’s hand. Tate did that today too, except it was the little girl who held his hand and he just kept blushing and saying…”hi, hi, hi” :) So how often does john have to go on business trips?

  4. Brielle Says:

Oh he doesn’t go very often. In fact this was the last one he has to do as far as we know. My sister said that picture of Jack and Kieli holding hands was disturbing and wrong. I think it’s too cute though.

Very cute freckles, Brielle. That’s a great picture of you and Jack!

I worry about every little outing, too, Brielle. It does take all the fun out of things. Whenever a trip ends without an incident, I feel bad that I worried so much and didn’t enjoy it as much as I could. Recognizing it is the first step – I’m trying to be better to relax and have fun more. Not easy.

    I love the pictures!
